THE GAMEThrough interactive mini games, the app teaches children how to keep themselves healthy with messages about oral, nutritional, physical and mental health.
The game uses features found on smart phones to encourage kids to get active while playing the game asking them to skip, dance, dodge obstacles and even spear some fish during the game. It encourages children to use what they have learned from the game in the real world and also has a 60 minute time limit each day to help limit screen time
THE SOLUTIONSpeedwell in conjunction with eHealth Qld developed an interactive Proof of Concept, which is a culturally appropriate and interactive educational solution for Indigenous kids to teach them about health and wellbeing.
To achieve this, a number of goals were outlined:
- Provide a digital health related gaming space for Indigenous kids, including games related to oral health care, obesity and other health conditions they experience
- Engage kids, while providing an opportunity for health messaging, interactive games and learning, keeping kids active and limiting screen time
- Provide non-judgemental health messages (including mental, physical and spiritual health), to support children that may already have health issues
- Feature positive, culturally appropriate content such as family connections, land, spirit and waterways to educate children to be strong in body, mind and spirit
