20 Most Watched Videos from 2013

YouTube is definitely coming out on top as more companies invest larger budgets in creating quality engaging videos. YouTube stats report more than 1 billion unique visits each month, with over 6 billion hours of video watched each month, and 100 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute.

Surprise, humour and shock were the underlying common themes for the most watched non-music related video content for 2013.

Personally I was shocked by the volume of views Ylvis’s “The Fox (What Does the Fox Say?)” received. With a total of 332,415,228 views, you had to be living under a rock to avoid hearing, watching or knowing about this clip. What started out as a joke by two Norwegian brothers hosting a T.V. variety show quickly became the most talked about and watched piece of content in 2013.

The Harlem Shake was a top trending internet dance craze that came about early February. YouTube reported there were 1.7 million parodies uploaded.;

The year ended on a high with the touching WestJet Christmas Miracle: real-time giving video. This well thought out and planned stunt gave 250 WestJet travellers from three different airports an amazing surprise on arrival of their destination of Calgary. If you haven’t already, put your Christmas spirit hat on and watch.

An office favourite was “Funny Goats Screaming like Humans” video. It had enough views, most probably by the Speedwell staff, so it made the list.

Personal favourites have to be Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake’s “#Hashtag” skit, and Dove’s “Real Beauty Sketches”, plus the parody of “Real Beauty Sketches”.
